June 2025
This June, the CARS Project EU proudly made its mark on the international stage at the Constructionism 2025 Conference, hosted at ETH Zurich from the 24th to the 27th of June. Representing the project were Dr. Ing. Lawrence Farrugia Caruana (University of Malta) and Dr. Antigoni Parmaxi (CYENS Centre of Excellence / Cyprus University of Technology), who shared insights from our work exploring child-driven Augmented Reality (AR) storytelling for language learning.
Dr. Farrugia Caruana delivered a presentation based on a collaborative paper co-authored with academics from the University of Malta, Universidad de Burgos, CYENS, and Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (Mexico). The study, which stems from activities within the CARS Project's work packages, investigates how children aged 10–12 can become creators of their own AR experiences, supporting language learning through storytelling rooted in constructionist learning principles.
The presentation highlighted the pedagogical value of letting children take the creative lead with AR, as well as some of the practical classroom challenges that emerge when applying such technology in real-world educational settings.
