May 2025
May 2025 has been a month of meaningful progress and professional engagement for the CARS Project EU. As schools began wrapping up the academic year, momentum within the project remained strong across partner institutions. From refining project materials to expanding our reach through educator training, the CARS initiative continues to take significant steps toward embedding Augmented Reality into language learning classrooms across Europe.
One of the month’s standout highlights was a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session hosted by St. Catherine’s High School (SCH), a key partner in the CARS Project. On Tuesday, 29th April, Dr. Ing. Lawrence Farrugia Caruana, principal investigator of the project, was invited to deliver an introductory training session on the use of AR in education. The workshop aligned with SCH’s ongoing professional development programme focused on enhancing digital and transversal teaching skills.
The session was well-attended by educators across various disciplines, who explored the broad potential of AR technology within subjects such as geography, history, and mathematics. In addition to a comprehensive overview of the CARS Project’s progress, participants took part in a hands-on exercise, experimenting with AR authoring tools and reflecting on how these might be adapted for their own classrooms. The response was enthusiastic, with many educators inspired to consider AR as a future-ready tool for interactive teaching.
Beyond the CPD event, May also marked an important phase in the evaluation of the CARS Project’s implementation in schools. Following the successful rollout of AR storytelling activities earlier this year, project partners have been working closely to collect, translate, and analyse observation data, student feedback, and educator interviews. These efforts are crucial in assessing the pedagogical impact of AR in language learning and will directly inform the final stages of the project.
Stay tuned for updates as we continue to evaluate and reflect on the impact of our work across classrooms in Europe!
