CARS Concludes: 33 Months of Creative Language Learning

August marks the official conclusion of the CARS Project EU. Running from 1 December 2023 to 31 August 2026, Children as Creators of Augmented Reality Stories brought together partners from Malta, Cyprus, and Spain for 33 months of collaboration around language learning, teacher preparation, and children's creative use of digital technology.

From Project Aims to Shared Resources

A central aim was to help children create and share their own stories through Augmented Reality. The classroom implementations placed this approach within language education, connecting narrative development with opportunities to make and share digital content. Story creation remained the thread linking the project's training, resources, and research.

Supporting teachers was equally central. CARS developed technical and pedagogical training materials, lesson plans, and exemplar stories, alongside its LearnHub platform. The face-to-face training in Burgos in October 2024, followed by training within partner schools, helped put this preparation into practice.

The project also set out to study the approach and share what was learned. The classroom study, completed analysis, and practical guidelines connect that research aim with support for educators. The systematic review published in January 2026 added a research contribution on AR and story-related activities in primary and secondary education.

Sharing the Work Across Europe

Dissemination carried these experiences beyond the original partnership. The multiplier programmes recorded attendance of 40 in Cyprus, 51 in Malta, and 103 in Spain, with each country exceeding the original minimum of 30. Together with conference presentations, the website, and social media, these activities created opportunities for a wider educational audience to encounter the CARS approach.

Taken together, these outputs address the project's commitments to teacher preparation, creative language learning, evaluation, and the sharing of practice. They provide a foundation for further exploration of how AR storytelling can fit different classrooms and learners.

As formal project activities conclude, we invite educators to explore the CARS resources, revisit the stories, and consider the possibilities for their own teaching. We hope the work shared through CARS continues to inspire new opportunities for children to imagine, create, and tell their stories.
